Stump Grinding & Removal

Like most people, you’d probably like to remove the stump after cutting down a tree in your yard. If you don’t, you’ll continuously have to cut grass around it, and it can be rather unsightly. A tree stump left behind by a large tree can last up to 10 years before it fully takes to rot. The exact amount of time it takes a stump to decay varies depending on the species of tree and the conditions in your yard. In some types of trees, your stump could actually sprout small saplings and begin to grow back

There are several different ways to remove a stump, but the fastest and most efficient method is to grind it away. The stump grinder or stump cutter removes tree stumps by means of a high speed rotating cutting disk that chips away at the stump wood. The stump grinder incorporates a cutter wheel with fixed carbide teeth. The cutter wheel movements are controlled by an operator to push the cutter wheel teeth laterally through the stump and to raise and lower the cutter wheel. The stump grinder can grind to a depth of 18 inches below surface grade if necessary for full removal of larger stumps

As the grinder shreds the stump and digs into the ground, you will end up with a loose dirt mulch like debris that will be back filled into your stumps hole. In most cases this decompressed debris will have more volume than the hole itself and will result in extra ground debris above surface grade.

We normally backfill the hole with the chips from grinding, however, if requested, we can provide additional services, such as hauling away the chips, or adding topsoil and seeding/regrading the area. Each of these options carry different costs.

Why Stump Removal Is Recommended

A stump that is left behind can become an unattractive addition to an otherwise beautiful landscape. As well as the obvious aesthetics, there are some other reasons to remove stumps from your yard:

1.) Sprouts regrowing from the stump

2.) Tripping hazards to pedestrians

3.) Stumps encourage fungi growth, which can attract insects such as termites or carpenter       ants

4.) Mowing and landscaping difficulties
